ST BRIGIDS COLLEGE

St Brigids College is the starting point to My Journey. St Brigids college is located in the hills of Perth in Lesmurdie WA.

I have been a boarder for three years and have enjoyed every moment. The school has many historical buildings and an interesting historical background. The school is a very historical and connecting place to the Sisters of mercy and many other catholics and pupils.

HISTORY OF ST BRIGIDS COLLEGE

St brigids college was founded in 1988. In 1929 the Sisters of Mercy provided a boarding school that would be apart of St Brigids college. The architecture of St Brigids college was inspired and based on the home of Cecil Rhodes in Cape Town. The building of the heritage commenced in 1913. A private school and Boarding school was established.

In 1919, at the end of the great world war, the heritage building was sold to the red cross and rented by the repatriation department for the sick and wounded soldiers. The oak trees across from the school were planted and the heritage buildings in the oak tree area were built.

In 1929, the building was then let to the Perth hospital as a convalescent home. In the same year it was then sold to the sisters of mercy for 9000 Pounds.

On April 21st 1929, Mother Teresa Rielly and seven sisters took up the boarding section creating a healthy environment for 35 borders and 3 day students. As this was successful in 1990 another boarding house was built to facilitate 157 new boarders
